stay the same
the change of seasons seems
unkind, it seems unfair,
and i climb the trees of summer
in the hopes that i can stop autumn
from coming if i stay up there
the growth of towns to frightening
cities seems unkind, it seems
unfair, and i walk the wooded paths
in the hopes that if i walk forever,
they’ll always be there
the passing of years so quickly
seems unkind, it seems unfair,
and i try so hard not to change
in the hopes that if i don’t,
i won’t age
the changing of the world seems
unkind, it seems unfair,
but i know that i can’t stop it,
no matter what i do,
i know that change will be
the one thing that always
stays the same
